Otari Lubrication info, tech tips....

All Otari tape recorders need lubrication about once a year.
which is easily done, but you need the CORRECT OIL !!!

Most Otari tape recorders use synthetic lubricants

DO NOT just use any oil - you will be sorry!

Otari and others used a lot of Sintered or Porus bearings
and a lot of various bushings...

The Sintered or Porus Oilite bearings MUST be lubricated with Oil
specially made for these bearings...

Such as Mobile DTE extra Heavy oil, or Mobile DTE Light or Teresso 43.
Studer actually used 2 specific Oils for their capstans
depending on which Sintered Bearing was used !

Most Otari capstans use an OILITE BEARING at the top,
which needs lubrication about every 6 months or so.
Check your manual for lubrication instructions

You apply 2 or 3 DROPS of oil onto the Capstan Felt Collar or
directly in the bearing if you are missing the felt collar.

DO NOT OVER LUBRICATE !!
Note some Otari's do NOT have the felt collar.

Such as Mobile DTE extra Heavy oil, or Mobile DTE Light or Teresso 43.
