Some Otari 5050's ARE partially or fully BALANCED

Some are fully UNBALANCED

Some have optional BALANCED transformers installed

ALL Otari 5050 machines are XLR PIN 3 HOT (+) from the factory

That is if no one has gone and re-wired your XLR's....!!!


You need to go look in your machine's SPECIFIC manual
to find out what the exact XLR configuration is set to from the Factory
and then actually CHECK that the machine is still set up that way or
if it's been modified or has optional Balanced trasnformers...

Fully UNBALANCED machines..... both Inputs and Outputs...
8 tracks: mkIII   -   SHD and 8SD and 8D (old split units)
2 and 4 tracks: 2SD - mkII - QX - 2QXD - QXHD - FL - 4S - B2 - BQII

Fully BALANCED machines (Inputs and Outputs)
5050 BII - BIII-2 - mkIII/2 - mkIV-2

Partially Balanced machines (Balanced Outputs ONLY - Inputs are UnBalanced
2H - 2HD - 2L - 2LD - 2S - 4L - 4Ld (transformers)
2SL 2SLD - 2SH - 2SHD - 2SM mkII - 4SH - 4SL - 5050-8

Some machines had Transformer Balanced Options
and some were Balanced output only in the USA and Canada versions !!
